Councils have approved a £500 million site expansion for Jaguar Land Rover.

Coventry and Warwick District councils have backed plans for Jaguar Land Rover to expand its site in Coventry. The 60-acre site could help speed up the development of autonomous technology, Jaguar Land Rover will invest £500 million into absorbing a 60-acre site, not so far from the existing building in Whitley, JLR had to submit a dual application as the development spanned the jurisdiction of both localities.

JLR have now received the double approval, in a statement they said that the expansion will help in supporting a long-term strategy to grow advanced engineering and design centres at Whitley.

The scheme is still subject to discussion, the Secretary of State is likely to make a review of the expansion before it goes ahead, this is despite it being endorsed by both councils.

If the plan does go ahead, JLR expect to create around 2000 jobs from the Whitley's site expansion. Experts say that the expansion will help JLR speed up the development of new technologies, this will include the development of autonomous driving systems.
